Year 6 Spring Project Exhibition

This morning, Year 6 welcomed parents to our Year 6 Spring Exhibition. It was great to see the children lead the presentations to inform the parents about their learning. Children were confident and passionate. After the presentation and quiz, children and parents then worked in small groups to research the Ancient Maya cities. Thanks to all who attended and well done all!

Year 6 Spring project exhibition

Year 6 – Forest Schools

On Friday, Year 6 had their second Forest School session with the amazing Ms Turner-Jones. Children completed a range of activities including den-building, cloud hunting and making bows and arrows. The session concluded with the usual fire and yummy s’mores – we’re already looking forward to the next session…

Year 5 & 6 – Cadbury World visit

To conclude our history topic about Ancient Maya, Years 5 and 6 visited Cadbury World to learn about the origins of chocolate over the centuries. Children discovered how bitter cocoa was slowly turned into the milk chocolate that we love these days. Obviously, lots of sampling of different chocolate was required!

Discovery Arts Award

Well done to all of our the children who achieved their Discovery Arts Award. They produced some fantastic creative work and have now received their special certificate from Trinity College. We are very proud of your achievements!

Year 6 – Fast Fashion

Year 6 began their ‘Fast Fashion’ Design and Technology learning by examining their own clothing and which countries their clothing has come from. Children carefully looked at their coats to identify special features and a range of sewing techniques.

Year 6 – sewing skills

Year 6 pupils have been practising their sewing skills, looking at different hand stitches. These skills will be transferred to the creation of their own clothing item.

Year 6 debate screen use

This morning as part of our writing learning journey on balanced arguments, children participated in a debate about the positives and negatives of screen use. After the debate, children had to write a paragraph explaining their viewpoint while providing evidence and statistics.

Year 6 – Website development

Today, children continued their website development learning by designing their own webpage. Children had to decide on a topic as well as the features they wanted to use. We’re excited to see them created in a few weeks time!

Year 6 – Design & Technology

This afternoon Year 6 began their ‘Fast Fashion’ Design & Technology learning by examining their own clothing and which countries their clothing has come from. After that children carefully looked at their coats to identify special features and a range of sewing techniques.

Year 6 Hook Day – Ancient Maya

Year 6 launched their history learning on Ancient Maya by examining a timeline. Children learnt about the four periods of Ancient Maya civilisation before seeing what was happening in Britain and worldwide at the same time!

Year 6 experiment with Micro:Bits

This morning children have been experimenting with our new micro:bits. These are tiny programmable computers that can be used to play music and make games among many other things!

Dick Whittington Pantomime

Our audience were treated to an amazing performance of Dick Whittington. Year 5 and 6 pupils showed great performing arts, leaving our audience wanting more.

What great talent our pupils have!  We can’t wait for next years performance! Well done to all.

Year 6 – Cross Teach experience

This morning Year 6 welcomed Cross Teach into school for their Christmas Experience workshop. Children completed different activities to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the Christmas story.

Years 5 & 6 go to the Playhouse Pantomime

Yesterday afternoon, Year 6 enjoyed watching Cinderella at Nottingham Playhouse. Children very loudly took part in the usual pantomime audience participation as well as enjoying the songs, the jokes and the special effects.

Year 6 Project Exhibition

Yesterday Year 6 hosted their Autumn Project Exhibition. Children shared their learning from subjects including history, art, design and technology and geography. Finally, parents and children completed an art activity together. This involved using their art learning to create a Christmas card. Thank you to all who attended.

Year 6 – Geography field work

This afternoon, Year 6 completed some fieldwork as part of their geography learning. Children practised their map skills while enjoying a local walk which focussed on leisure activities. They then compared their findings to their recent study of Innsbruck, Austria.

Year 6 investigate heart rates

This afternoon Year 6 have been completing their own experiments in science. Children investigated the affect of exercise on heart rate. After completing two minutes of exercise, children measured their heart rates every minute to see what happens.

Year 6 Geography – The Alps

This afternoon, Year 6 children started their geography learning about the Alps. In today’s lesson, children practised their map skills by using an atlas to locate the Alps and the eight countries it is part of.

Year 6 SATS club

This evening, Year 6 SATs Club started. After a quick snack and a drink, children practised completing long multiplication calculations before moving onto reasoning with ‘Always, Sometimes, Never’ statements. Children had to provide evidence when choosing their answer.

Year 5 & 6 – Tudor Day

What a brilliant Tudor day we’ve had in Year 5 and Year 6. We have been visited by Henry VIII and his court jester, Will Sommers. Throughout the day, they helped us learn about Tudor dancing, writing, games as well as crime and punishments!

Year 6 – Mechanisms

This afternoon, Year 6 started their Design & Technology learning on mechanisms. As a class, we looked at tool safety before preparing the wood and cardboard for our toy automata.

Year 6’s Into University secret mission

Year 6 have had a fantastic few days learning at Into University where we have learnt so much about the Tudors. We also researched university life as well as completing our Secret Mission (shhh!).

Year 6 Into University Graduation

Year 6 have concluded their Into University Focus Week with a visit to the University of Nottingham. Children participated in a campus tour, a final presentation before GRADUATION!

Year 6 – Into University Tudor Week

Year 6 launched their Into University Tudor Week with a trip to where it all began! Children learnt  about the history of the War of the Roses before examining the Battle of Bosworth in detail including weapon training with Master John…

Year 6 – was King Henry VIII a tyrant?

In Year 6, we have our launched our Tudor history learning by examining the leadership of King Henry VIII. Using a range of primary sources, children had to decide whether he was a fair ruler or a tyrant! Year 6 decided the answer was somewhere in the middle.

Next stop, the site of the Battle of Bosworth on Monday…

Year 6 Leavers Assembly

Year 6 Leavers Assembly was pure brilliance. With performances worthy of the Royal Albert Hall, we were entertained with magic, dance, music and poetry to name just a few.

We laughed and we cried, with tears of joy and sadness.

We wish our unique and talented pupils the brightest of futures. We will miss each and every one of you!

Year 6 Walesby Forest residential

Year 6 enjoyed a wonderful time at Walesby Forest. Our pupils displayed an abundance of determination, perseverance, collaboration with all activities encountered. They showed amazing skill in archery and laser tag, were fearless as they raced to the top of the climbing wall and took a leap of faith. We also enjoyed relaxing on the lake in their canoes!

What a superb and fun weekend, enjoyed by all!

Mental Health Support Team visitors

We welcomed visitors from Mental Health Support Team to help pupils in Upper Key Stage 2 explore emotions and the changes that may occur as they grow and develop. Pupils learned valuable techniques that can help them cope with the emotional ups and downs that may arise during this time.
