Spring has sprung in Reception. We enjoyed doing some observational drawings of daffodils. We looked carefully at the flower and the stem.

Our pupils in Reception and Year 1, thoroughly enjoyed their workshops delivered by Judith and her team. They taught Reception and Year 1 children a lot of new skills as they travelled through Gambia.
Children made a colourful African mask, learnt traditional songs and dances, the drums and the bongo! The classes came together to put on a very energetic, entertaining and inclusive performance.
Thank you Judith and your team for coming in and working with us. We have learnt so much about Gambia, through the arts.
Reception loved making pancakes! They mixed eggs, flour and milk to get the batter. They then fried them. We had a choice of toppings and they tasted yummy.
Early Years Foundation Stage had a visit from the Teddy Bears Hospital. They brought their teddies into school ready to visit the hospital. We had different stations to visit. We had handwashing, brushing our teeth, visiting the hospital and seeing the doctor. It was great fun to try the different activities.
For NSPCC maths day Early Years enjoyed a parent’s maths session. There were lots of opportunities to learn all about number and pattern. We used five frames, patterning elephants, number formation sheets, puzzles and books.
As part of National Storytelling Week we made our own puppets to use for storytelling. We have made a puppet theatre and are going to use our imaginations to make up stories.
Early Years Foundation Stage learnt about Chinese New Year. They listened to the story of how the Emperor chose the animals for the zodiac calendar, they used charcoal to draw Chinese numerals, practised their fine motor skills and even had it in the home corner and play dough.
Reception loved their Beat Feet session. We had fun colouring masks and singing songs about Africa. We also did some dancing using lasers.
Reception enjoyed learning about number recognition and 1-1 number correspondence by playing a game on the interactive whiteboard.
Early Years Foundation Stage enjoyed their second parents reading session. Such valuable time sharing books and promoting the love of reading. See you again next week!
Early Years Foundation Stage enjoyed their first parent’s reading session. A great chance to share stories with children and adults. Remember this will happen every Friday 9 – 9.30!
Early Years are learning about explorers. They had an explorer day. We started by doing our own exploring to see what we could find. We saw it was very frozen and investigated how it felt. We saw lots of things including aeroplanes, birds, trees and Stick Man. We had an explorer snack then did lots of activities including making earth and making telescopes.
Reception children did a great job of using Fred talk to complete their writing in phonics!
Reception enjoyed being outside exploring the ice. They talked about how the snow had turned to ice and it felt so hard. They then decided to try and break the ice. They found that was quite tricky to do so tried using cones and tools to help them.
Reception enjoyed their Beat Feet session this morning. They learnt a new dance and followed instructions so well.
Children in Reception, Class 1 and 2 took part in a Beat Feet dance workshop. They listened to an African story and then learnt a series of actions in time to the music. They retold the story using expression, rhythm, actions and movement to music.
Reception are learning about circles and triangles. We looked at some art work by Kandinsky who used circles and triangles in his work. We then made our own pictures using circles and triangles. Some of us cut out shapes for the picture and some used paint or crayons.
Reception Class enjoyed going on an Autumn walk to collect leaves. They then made these into nature catchers. We loved listening to the scrunching of leaves and collecting them in our own tubs.
Reception loved learning about Diwali. They learnt why people celebrate Diwali and how. They then made their own rangoli patterns using chalks and some mendhi with paint. We also realised they celebrate with fireworks in the evening.
EYFS had an amazing time at Forest schools. We learnt so much and really enjoyed the toasted marshmallows and hot chocolate!
Reception enjoyed learning about Bessie Coleman for Black History Month. She was the first African-American female pilot. We learnt how she did acrobatics on her aeroplane and even jumped out of it. We then made our own paper aeroplanes and practiced throwing them to see how far they could go.
Lots of lovely independent learning happened in Reception class today. We used our phonic skills to make words, created repeating patterns, used numicon to make a picture and accessed the mark making table to practice letter writing and formation.
Children in Reception and Key Stage 1 have gained a great deal from BeatFeet drumming sessions, where the children have taken trip to Africa, meeting animals and working together to sing African songs and play various rhythms on drums and expressing themselves through movement. The children have developing their imagination and cooperative skills, as well as continue to develop a love of learning through fun and engaging activities.
Reception class enjoyed doing an experiment for science this week. We used kitchen roll to make our own rainbow. We coloured in the ends and then dipped it in water. We were amazed to see how the water soaked into the kitchen roll and made the colours move. This then created a rainbow effect.
Reception class have enjoyed their first week in school exploring their new environment, enjoying a PE lesson and staying for their first school dinner. What a great start!
Another super afternoon with pupils and parents. Today we weeded and prepared the planting beds in the Early Years playground. With the help of the pupils and staff we have planted herbs and flowers that are good for wildlife and tasting! The children love watering with the hosepipe!
We completed the bamboo screening and weeded in the allotment- lots of lettuces are ready to pick!
EYFS had a great time at their stay and play. Mummies and daddies enjoyed it too . We also enjoyed being outside using all the scooters, bikes and climbing.
EYFS enjoyed making a train for the start of their new book The Train Ride. They worked together to put boxes in place then enjoyed playing on the train. They had a conductor, driver and passengers. Super team work by everybody.
Reception were using tubes to blow bubbles. They used tubes of different lengths to see if it changed the size of the bubbles. They enjoyed finding out what happened.
