Look at our amazing sketching and shading techniques! Class 6 are very creative and artistic, well done.

Today Year 6 had a visit from a maths specialist, who has given us some extra fluency ideas. We had a go at a fun and effective ‘factor bug’ game. Mrs Gill left us with a challenge for homework and we’d love to see as many children as possible having a go. There will be Dojos awarded. But remember, no Googling!
Can you make a factor bug with the most legs (find a number up to 100 with the most factors)? See the attached example for a reminder and some fantastic whiteboard work, well done!
Reception enjoyed their Beat Feet session this morning. They learnt a new dance and followed instructions so well.
Our Community Rangers planned a variety of activities to raise money to support other children and families in need. They wore bright and fun outfits, took part in a fun run, completed Children in Need maths and art-based activities. Our generous parents kindly donated cakes for our Community Rangers to sell to all classes.
Thank you so much to all of our families for your support.
Children in Reception, Class 1 and 2 took part in a Beat Feet dance workshop. They listened to an African story and then learnt a series of actions in time to the music. They retold the story using expression, rhythm, actions and movement to music.
Reception are learning about circles and triangles. We looked at some art work by Kandinsky who used circles and triangles in his work. We then made our own pictures using circles and triangles. Some of us cut out shapes for the picture and some used paint or crayons.
In PE we have been learning about dance. Today we have learnt about how to dance and move like an animal. Well done Year 1!
During Anti-Bullying assembly, Mrs Stone discussed the theme ‘Choose Respect’ with us. Our pupils shared examples of what respect looks like in our school and community.
It was lovely to see so many pupils wearing odd socks. This represents that we all are different and the importance of showing respect to everyone.
The Green Team are currently leading us in helping to reduce our carbon footprint this month by being part of the ‘Cut Your Carbon’ campaign. All children have taken home a sheet to complete six activities to reduce carbon over the month of November. We are also leading the school in ‘Switch off Fortnight’. Every week over the next month the Green Team will be working with our site manager to take meter readings of energy used in school and see if everyone across school is remembering to switch off lights and electronic devices when not in use. At the end of the month we will hopefully see a reduction in the energy our school has used, and smaller energy bills….watch this space!!!
In maths we have begun our addition and subtraction unit. The children used part whole models and counters to show their working out. We did really well!
This afternoon children completed our first science lesson by creating different electrical circuits. After they created working circuits, children had to accurately draw the circuits using the correct symbols. Fantastic perseverance and collaboration on display!
During Remembrance Assembly we recalled the events of D-Day, the stories of men and women who took part in D-Day and we remembered those who serve to keep us safe. Our assembly concluded with the poem ‘Flanders Fields’ read by some or our Year 6 pupils.
At 11am our pupils showed their respect during the two minutes silence.
Reception Class enjoyed going on an Autumn walk to collect leaves. They then made these into nature catchers. We loved listening to the scrunching of leaves and collecting them in our own tubs.
Year 1 went on a trip to a Victorian school, we really enjoyed ourselves. We learnt about what school was like for children during the Victorian period. We found it so interesting . We then played with some Victorian toys in the playground. What an amazing trip!
Year 2 had a wonderful time at Perlethorpe, where they attended a Victorian School! We tried on Victorian outfits, learnt about the strict punishments, had a go writing in cursive on slate and got to play with old, wooden toys. It was a wonderful day! The children learnt a lot.
This morning Year 6 have been practicing their long multiplication by completing an investigation. Children competed against each other to create calculations with answers within each increment up to 100,000. Showing great perseverance, children worked hard to complete the calculations before their partner!
Today in computing we learnt how messages are passed through multiple connections and why we need a network switch. We practised being a network and sending messages which was lots of fun!
Our topic in science this half term is animals including humans. To start this off, the children learnt about the human body. We then used what we had learnt to describe these different parts of the human body to our partners, so they could guess what part we were describing. We did really well today.
Thank you to Prashant for visiting our school. He talked to our pupils about the meaning of Diwali and how Hindus celebrate this special occasion. Our pupils listened attentively and asked a lot of thoughtful questions. They showed an appreciation of other religions and respect for different beliefs. A huge thank you to Mrs Sonavane and Miss Whiley for organising our assembly and for decorating our hall. Our pupils also enjoyed our special Diwali lunch courtesy of Mrs Sonovane and her team. It was delicious!
In IT, Year 1 have been learning about how to use the mouse and keyboard. We have also learnt how to login in independently.
In Art, Year 2 are focusing on mark making and pencil drawing. We started by trying out lots of different mark making tools to create straight and curved patterns.
In Geography we are beginning our topic of ‘What is it like here?’. To start this off, we looked at aerial photographs of the UK and Nottingham on Google Earth. We then looked at an aerial photograph of our school and local area. We then located key places with our partners.
For the final week of last half term, our attendance reward was given to classes who had no children absent due to being on holiday. The classes which achieved this were Reception, Class 1 and Class 5. WELL DONE TO THOSE CLASSES! I hope the children all enjoyed their treats.
This half term we have a whole school ‘Attendance Race‘. Whichever class receives the attendance reward each week will move towards the end of the race track. The class at the end of this half term that is nearest to the finish line will receive an end of term attendance reward.
Reception, Class 1 and Class 5 have already made a good start, let’s see which classes can catch them up on the race track!
Reception loved learning about Diwali. They learnt why people celebrate Diwali and how. They then made their own rangoli patterns using chalks and some mendhi with paint. We also realised they celebrate with fireworks in the evening.
In English we are studying the book ‘The Day The Crayons Quit’. To get into character we made crayon headbands and role played being the crayons. We were amazing at this and really got into character. We also did some hot seating and our questions were fantastic!
Today our Reading Rangers planned for the opening of the reading library club.
They will open the club to Years 1-6, every lunchtime. Pupils will be able to enjoy reading a book of their choice or from the library.
Our Reading Rangers are very much looking forward to promoting their love of reading and reading for pleasure. What an amazing team of enthusiastic pupils we have!
Year 2 have enjoyed creating crayon characters to introduce their new book ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ by Drew Daywalt as part of their hook days. We look forward to getting to know each character in more detail.
EYFS had an amazing time at Forest schools. We learnt so much and really enjoyed the toasted marshmallows and hot chocolate!
Children in Year 3 have become scientists. They worked scientifically and conducted an experiment to find out how much heat is needed to turn a solid (chunk of chocolate) into a liquid. Each scientist used a different method to melt the chocolate. They made predictions, changed a variable and performed tests. They discussed their conclusions and which method was the most effective.
