Year 2 – Newark Air Museum

Class 2 had an amazing time with Class 1 at the Newark Air Museum, exploring the different types of flying machines over the years from helicopters, aeroplanes, jets, and a replica of the original aircraft built and flown by the Wright brothers for 12 seconds.

Year 1 – Newark Air Museum

Year 1 went to Newark Air Museum and we learnt all about how humans took flight. We looked at how planes developed over time and really enjoyed ourselves!

Year 5 & 6 – Galleries of Justice Museum

What a brilliant trip to the National Justice Museum. Throughout the busy day, children learnt about Georgian & Victorian prison life including for female inmates before completing a crime scene investigation but using Victorian methods. The afternoon saw the class complete a cave tour before learning how to be archaeologist.

Early Years – Teddy bear hospital

Early Years Foundation Stage had a visit from the Teddy Bears Hospital. They brought their teddies into school ready to visit the hospital. We had different stations to visit. We had handwashing, brushing our teeth, visiting the hospital and seeing the doctor. It was great fun to try the different activities.

Year 6 – Victorian baking

Class 6 have done some fantastic baking today including a visit to the kitchen and a talk with the school cook. We made Victorian inspired cakes by adapting a basic Victoria sponge recipe: they planned their sponge flavour, filling and decorations. We hope you enjoy tasting them at home!

Early Years – NSPCC Numbers Day

For NSPCC maths day Early Years enjoyed a parent’s maths session. There were lots of opportunities to learn all about number and pattern. We used five frames, patterning elephants, number formation sheets, puzzles and books.

Year 3 – create Stone Age animations

Today in Class 3, we used stop-frame animation on Purple Mash to create our own short Stone Age animations. We created a series of frames, set the background, digitally drew each frame and made small changes using onion skinning to make sure there was a smooth transition between frames. They were fabulous! 🌟😃💻🌟

Early Years storytelling with puppets

As part of National Storytelling Week we made our own puppets to use for storytelling. We have made a puppet theatre and are going to use our imaginations to make up stories.

Year 5 & 6 author workshop

As part of National Storytelling Week, Year 5 and Year 6 participated in an online workshop with award-winning author Tọlá Okogwu. The theme of the week is ‘Reimagine Your World’ and children worked with Tola to create their own superhero story. Tola discussed her writing process and how she formulates her own ideas into a story. It was amazing to see so many excellent ideas from the children.

Year 1 -Forest Schools

In Year 1, the children have been taking part in a forest school experience. They learnt lots of skills and had a Gruffalo hunt!

Year 5 & 6 – Crime Scene Investigators!

Today Year 5 and 6 have been immersed in their new English unit by becoming crime scene investigators! They had to look for clues, take notes and come up with a possible hypothesis using the evidence, before finding out what it represented by reading the poem ‘The Highwayman’ by Alfred Noyes. We will be continuing to look at this from a different aspect next week and are impressed with the children’s enthusiasm so far.

Year 1 – Forest School

Our last Forest School of the year. We cooked on the fire and made lots of interesting things. Well done Class 1!

Year 3 – improving a Stone Age diet

Class 3 have had a wonderful day today cooking in Design & Technology. We learnt all about food hygiene and safety in the kitchen. We weighed, prepared and measured all of the ingredients that we had chosen. We tried our best using today’s methods and techniques to improve a Stone Age diet 🍪😃♥️🥣🧁👍

Year 6 – History of the women’s vote

In our history learning this afternoon, Year 6 have been developing their understanding of the journey of how women were finally allowed to vote. Children learnt how women started to spoil the census, among other activities as a method of protest. Finally, children constructed a timeline of the significant events.

Early Years celebrate Chinese new year

Early Years Foundation Stage learnt about Chinese New Year. They listened to the story of how the Emperor chose the animals for the zodiac calendar, they used charcoal to draw Chinese numerals, practised their fine motor skills and even had it in the home corner and play dough.

Thank you to our amazing catering team for providing a fantastic Chinese New Year meal for us to try. We feasted on Chinese lemon chicken, rice, stir fry noodles and mango muffins. Delicious!

Year 1 & 2 – Chinese New Year

Years 1 and 2 had so much fun celebrating Chinese New Year. Many thanks to our parent governor for celebrating with us!

Reception – Beat Feet session

Reception loved their Beat Feet session. We had fun colouring masks and singing songs about Africa. We also did some dancing using lasers.

Year 1 – Beatfeet session

In today’s Beatfeet session, Year 1 were continuing our learning about The Gambia. We listened to traditional music and we used torches to create an ocean effect on the ceiling.

Reception – interactive number recognition

Reception enjoyed learning about number recognition and 1-1 number correspondence by playing a game on the interactive whiteboard.

Year 1 – Forest Schools

In Forest School, Year 1 learnt how to use a bow saw to create discs to draw on. We then had some delicious hot chocolate!

Early Years parent’s reading session

Early Years Foundation Stage enjoyed their second parents reading session. Such valuable time sharing books and promoting the love of reading. See you again next week!

Year 6 investigate light

This afternoon Year 6 continued their science learning about light. Children created viewfinders to test which materials reflect light the best. Throughout the session, children investigated a range of materials while also recording their observations accurately.

Year 1 – making bread

In Year 1 we had a fantastic Design and Technology day. We tasted fruit and bread and decided which one we wanted to add to our own bread. We then learnt how to use a knife safely, using the bridge and claw techniques. We then tasted our bread, it was yummy!

Year 3 make animations

In Computing, we have been practising ways of making short animations- by taking still photographs, changing one part at a time and by digitally drawing frames. We also learnt to use ‘onion skinning’ to help us to see the previous frame when drawing a new one to make movement smoother. We the ran the animations to see how well they worked. They were impressive!

Year 3 discover the Amesbury Man

Year 3 and 4 have enjoyed an afternoon of discovery in history. We learnt about the Amesbury man who was discovered in 2002. In groups we did 3 activities.

  • Conscience Alley where we decided if archaeologists should or should not excavate the grave of the Amesbury man.
  • We sketched Stone Age artefacts.
  • We excavated the grave of the Amesbury man and thought about what the artefacts tell us about his life.

Year 3 make mould fossils

Class 3 have rounded off their rocks and soils topic by making mould fossils. A mould fossil is created in sedimentary rock when an organism rots away and leaves an imprint of its original shape.

Year 1 – History of flight

In History Year 1 have been learning about how humans took flight. Today we created freeze frames from when the Wright Brothers first took flight all those years ago.

Year 1 – Beatfeet session

Year 1 had a fantastic session with Beatfeet. They made African masks and learnt a song from The Gambia.
