Year 6 learn Darwin’s theory of evolution
Year 6 have been busy learning about Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution and the finches of the Galapagos. Darwin spotted that different shaped beaks had evolved to help finches eat more of their favourite food in particular locations. We didn’t have finch beaks, but we did have forceps and pegs. Children had to test how effective each ‘beak substitute’ was at picking up a variety of food types from plant seeds to peppercorns. The pegs were particularly challenging, but we could see how having the right shaped beak could help a finch to survive!
